THE GREAT OUTDOORS...
"NOT ALL THOSE WHO WANDER ARE LOST"
One of the things I like to always have handy is some sort of rescue tool. There are many out there, all shapes and sizes, all price points.
Spyderco has been a well know name in the Knife community for years now, so when I wanted to try out a new rescue tool...that was my first stop!
The Assist Salt combines the versatility of multi-function of the Assist model with the rustproof brilliance of H-1® steel to deliver a light weight, super durable, rescue tool that everyone will love. Keeping the "rescue" usability as a priority, Syderco really delivers with a few great design features.
Starting with the handle, the fiberglass-reinforced nylon construction keeps this knife in your hand! Super easy to hold on to, even wet. The size is perfect for any hand (which isn't always the case). The pocket clip is a wire frame design, and thank goodness it's screwed down with the single larger nut and bolt type of hardware versus those tiny three screws that are always coming loose.
The blade design keeps a shard edge, has a nice big hole for easy opening, and there is a really cool clip type feature that allows you to clip whatever your cutting through, similar to clipping a cigar. I love that feature!
One of the best feature of the Assist Salt is the glass breaker. Recessed in the handle, it takes a light squeeze to to the blade to engage the breaker, and use it.
Let's not forget...it's rust proof! The H-1 steel blade uses nitrogen instead of carbon that produces not only a strong, tough, blade that keeps its edge, that's where the rust and corrosion proof comes in as well. Here are the basics to give you an idea of size and weight.
length overall 8.55" (217 mm)
blade length 3.68" (93 mm)
blade steel H-1
length closed 4.87" (124 mm)

The Syderco Assist Salt delivers durability, functionality, and doesn't break the budget at about $160 bucks. I feel very comfortable knowing that if things go sideways...I have my Syperco Assist Salt right there with me ready to go.
