THE GREAT OUTDOORS...
"NOT ALL THOSE WHO WANDER ARE LOST"
Ok, ok, maybe not exactly "VEGAS BABY!!!" but it is CES week and thats always fun...for a while. There is so much to see and do here this week, it can easily go by in a flash without taking a moment to get outside and take in some local nature. Luckily for me there's a great place just up the road!
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and it's a short drive from the strip. If your looking to get a break from the chaos of Vegas, get out and hike or simply take a nice drive through some beautiful desert landscape this is worth the trip.
There are few places more beautiful than the desert. Every season offers it's own backdrop. The rich colors and defined mountains tell stories of an evolving history like nowhere else, I can only imagine the adventures of the past. My favorite thing about it though is the way I feel when I'm taking it all in. The world is so big and I am so small it's inevitable that my perspective changes every time get out here.
you know, I bet if the entire human race would spend time silent in nature every now and then we would all become less about what we can take and more about what we could give in this world. Being apart of something bigger than the few mile radius we spend most of our time in gives a sense of meaning that we just can't get from punching a clock everyday alone.
Now, that does not mean we all need to quit our jobs, become explorers and travel the world looking for the next adventure. It does mean however that we can unplug occasionally, show our friends and family the beauty and significance of nature and then take that refueling back into our day to day lives, we could actually make our everything better. Come on...give it a try!
I have seen a lot in the past 25 years or so. I've watched people rise up and collectively accomplish things that seemed to be impossible and I've witnessed the worst of the the worst sink to the lowest levels of humanity to engage in behaviors that are incomprehensible. From the best of the best to the worst of the worst I am always amazed at the complicated world mankind has created for ourselves. Our politics are corrupt propaganda driven agendas from all sides, our lines between right and wrong are becoming thinner than ever, and for reasons I cannot wrap my head around, the smarter and more advanced we become seems to push us further and further towards greed, selfishness and evil. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE?
Life doesn't have to be so complicated though. We don't have to fight, we don't have to hate and we most certainly don't have to be manipulated by groups like the "free press", corporate America and our wonderful leaders that line their pockets on the backs of the folks that they are suppose to be looking out for.
When was the last time you were shocked after hearing a story of a lion attacking someone in the jungle or a shark taking a juicy bite out of a swimmer off the California coast line? Most likely, you probably thought how tragic that scenario was right before you told yourself...what the heck were those people thinking?? Yeah...exactly...you're right! A lion is a lion and a shark is a shark. The are only doing what they do. It's up to us to safeguard ourselves from that kind of thing, right?
So why are we so shocked when a "friend" says something bad about us behind our backs? Why are we baffled when we see corruption in politics, sexual harassment in an industry that glorifies sex and violence and greed in a world that only exists to make money?? It doesn't make sense. We know what we are capable of thinking, saying and doing, that means we know what someone else is capable of thinking, saying and doing. Remember, it's up to us to safeguard ourselves from that kind of thing, right?
As much as the world around us says we are not...WE ARE responsible for ourselves. We are responsible for our own actions, we are responsible our lifestyles, we are responsible for what we bring into our relationships, all of it. We are responsible for all of it and believe it or not...that's good news!
Look, life without us overcomplicating everything is actually pretty easy to get. If we go through life loving God, loving each other and modeling things like selflessness, forgiveness and generosity in our own behaviors, this world would be fantastic!
You know why I love nature and being in nature so much? It separates me from the "civilized" world created by us and I get back to basics. I get to experience first hand how real these cool little catch phrases like less is more, silence speaks louder than noice and simplicity brings fulfillment really are.
You want to be happy? Try this...be kind, work for what you get, appreciate the people in your life, understand that a lion will always do what a lion does and above all....keep things simple!
With each new year comes the opportunity for a can start...so to speak. This year, lets all try and be who we want to be. Let's live more, adventure more, explore more. Let's show the world and everyone in that owning a Jeep is a part of our DNA and so is living outside the box. This year, let's all be more like this guy...
