JEEP LIFE AND THE GREAT OUTDOORS
"Not all those who wander are lost"
Now that I actually have a snorkel, and have had my hands on a couple of them, I wanted to revisit this post for an update. So...here we go.
A snorkel can save you A LOT Of heartache! It can be the difference between enjoying your wheeling trip with your friends, or stalling out, washing down the river and crashing to a certain death over a waterfall.
Ok, well at least locking everything up...and It could definitely save you from getting stuck and full of water...and made fun of by all your friends for the rest of your life. So, A few hundreds and you'll never be mocked again!!!
Snorkels are pretty simple, but there are a few options when it comes to choose from. What they're made of, where they tie into, and a few design differences. When I started researching which snorkel is the best (for me) I narrowed it down to three.
First up, Rugged Ridge makes a very cool looking snorkel.
Well, now we have one of these babies on our Rubicon and we love it! It is a pretty big project though. Not super tough, you just need to give yourself a few hours and take your time with it.
It's definitely the most subtle looking. Very clean, very functional.
Next up, the aluminum snorkel by River Raider
All aluminum is a great idea! It has a durability and a look to it that will make any Jeep owner proud. They even have a stubby snorkel that looks pretty cool. The only down side was having to drill into the body of my Jeep. I'm not totally against it, but would rather not if I can get around it. That leads me to my winner...
The AEV snorkel
Those of you that know me, know that I am a HUGE fan of anything AEV.(although for some reason, they won't work with me on anything! Another story for another day I guess).
Anyway, they make great stuff! The snorkel is no different. It was nice and thick, looks great and mounts through the hood instead of the body, which is a much easier fix if you ever get rid of it. Or...I went with their performance hood too so it was a pretty easy install and perfect fit.

Bottom line, a snorkel kit isn't exactly rocket science. They all cost about the same, give or take. They look great, and they help with air flow as well as keeping you from ruining your engine in water. Find your favorite, and have fun!
