JEEP LIFE AND THE GREAT OUTDOORS
"Not all those who wander are lost"
I know that I'm not alone in realizing that the Jeep Wrangler feels either boggy or screaming...especially when it comes to climbing a hill. Although the motor does leave a bit to be desired, the problem lies with the throttle. The throttle response to be specific. Now, throttle response has less to do with how much power a vehicle has but instead how fast it can release that power. With that in mind, there are some answers here.
The first...A HEMI CONVERSION!! What?? I can dream can't I?? Ok, ok, back down to earth for me. Another great answer...The PedalBox by DTE Systems. The PedalBox is a simple "plug and play" module that will help regulate the throttle's response time through the "rev range"...and that is exactly what my 2011 JKU needed!
The install was so detailed and advanced I decided to include the instructions straight from DTE...
-Turn off the ignition and wait five minutes.
-Loosen the plug connection from the original plug adapter.
-Attach both OEM connectors to the accelerator pedal sensor.
-Lay the cables in such a way that they are securely installed and are not interfering with anything else.
-Attach the PedalBox at a comfortable height in relation to the driver's seat.
Hehehe...see what I did there?? Honestly though...I couldn't believe that's all it took to install it. ANYONE can do it!
It's a simple fix that quite honestly is a changes everything!
There are several performance modes with the PedalBox and you can choose which is appropriate for what you're doing. Check out these simple pictures that make understanding and using it a snap.
When it comes to buying the PedalBox I have honestly seen them from $249 on Amazon to authorized dealers selling them for about $375 bucks. I actually chose to go with Beach AutoSound in Huntington Beach because I have been a customer for easy over 10 years and I know how great they are with their customer service. Plus, I wasn't sure how the PedalBox would do and these guys always stand behind the products they sell.
It's been about a week now and I am so happy with the results from the PedalBox, I had to share! It's a weird subtle, but super effective upgrade, it makes me wonder why this isn't the way the Wrangler just comes from the factory.
