JEEP LIFE AND THE GREAT OUTDOORS
My biggest regret in buying my latest Jeep is that I didn't get it with halfdoors! About a day after I drove my new Jeep off the lot back in 2011 the regret settled in AND hasn't gone away...until now! Thanks to Rugged Ridge that regret is no more!
Built from a paintable impact resistant thermoplastic black ABS material, the panels are UV protected and paintable (although I love the contrasting black). The steel frames are also powder coated for corrosion resistance. The doors all come with weather tight seals to keep the noise down and more importantly...keep you DRY! The OEM "style" hinge allows you to remove the full doors and pop these right in, easy peasey! The door panels are nice and match up with your interior, and just in case you use the upper inserts, the handles are lockable!
This week the CoolGuyStuff.tv crew hit the Mojave Trail and our new Rugged Ridge halfdoors held up to everything we threw at them!
Leaving the house around 2:30am there was a chill in the air. That meant uppers and lowers! I was happily surprised the noise wasn't to loud, and the fit kept me snug as a bug in a rug! (Sorry, I've always wanted to use that one). Anyway, by 8am temps were reaching 70 degrees and it was time to pop out those uppers and go halfy!
That's my favorite way to drive. I think it's he perfect balance of open air and protection from the wind and cold, so test one...warmth, and noise of the uppers and lowers gets a big PASS!
The day one the trail was a beautiful one. It was sunny, not to hot, and we didn't see another person the entire day! I would of been really bummed missing out on the open air, but not to windy feel you get with halfdoors if is didn't half these! Rolling down the windows of full doors is no where near the same feeling! Test two...another PASS! halfdoors were perfect!
Ok, that was the easy stuff right? Remember though, most of our days are spent doing the easy stuff, so it's important to understand how great the halfdoors will be day to day.
Next up...mud! Time to spend about 2 minutes to pop back in the uppers (that store perfectly behind the rear seat by the way if you have a JKU). The mud test was no joke! We spent miles slipping and sliding through the lakebed, it was fun...and MESSY! Well, we made it through and as you guessed, no mud made it in! Clean (cleanish) interior is intact! Mud test...PASS!
We definitely saved the best for last...the water seal test! I'm not sure why, but driving though the water is the best! Ok, the water test was done through two sections at the end of the trail. Most of the drive was right at the door line, but there were a couple spots that went above, so I did get nervous enough to move all of my stuff to higher ground (off the floor), just in case. No need for worry though folks...not a drop! I was honestly surprised too. I know the doors came with the seal, but hey...what can I say? I can be a bit of a skeptic at times. Water test I am extra happy to say...PASS!
Guys, I know there are a lot of Jeepers out there that are in the same exact place I was with the halfdoor regret problem. Although there are some choices out there for you, I can't stress how happy I am with the Rugged Ridge replacement halfdoors and uppers! It was so nice to be able to pop in and out the upper halves to fit the need at the time! I seriously doubt if my hard doors will be going on anytime soon!
