JEEP LIFE AND THE GREAT OUTDOORS
"Not all those who wander are lost"
Yesterday I hit the road early wanting to catch the sunrise over the desert hilltops of Southern California. It was a bit hazing from the heavy marine layer coming off of the ocean, but I knew if I kept going east...eventually I could get past it.
The trail was exactly how I love it...empty! I didn't see another person the entire time out, and although a day spent Jeepin with friends is full of fun, the peace of a beautiful sunrise off the grid is exactly what my head and soul needs sometimes.
This may sound odd if you haven't experienced it yet, but you'd be surprised how clear things become when a person takes the time to separate from the distractions of the world and be alone in nature. The simplicity of life existing the way it was created to exist brings a certain level of honesty and sincerity to our hearts and minds that is just to difficult to achieve that when we are caught up in the grind of "regular" life.
While out, I couldn't help but to think how lucky I was. Lucky to be standing there sucking up all nature has to show me. The sounds, the smells, the sights, all there for me to witness...to experience. It was as perfect as anything will every be in this imperfect world, and I was there taking it all in.
That's when I realized it isn't luck at all. I didn't just magically appear in the middle of this beautiful backdrop. I chose to be here. I chose to get myself out of bed at a time most still consider nighttime. I chose to pack up my gear in preparation of a trip. I chose to spend the time driving until I was away from it all. This entire trip was a series of choices made to be exactly where I was doing exactly what I was doing.
That's life folks. That's the process of living anyway. We are where we are in life because of a series of choices we have made to get us there. If it's great, it because we chose greatness. If it's tragic, it's because we chose tragedy. I know, sometimes bad things happen and I know we can't control the world around us, but I we can control the decisions we make while living in it.
Yup, there's good news and bad news here. The bad news is this...YOU are the reason you have the life you have. The good news however...YOU are the reason you have the life you have. Simple right? Simple if we are honest with ourselves anyway.
The next time you're facing a crossroad remember the path you take is the path you choose.
