JEEP LIFE AND THE GREAT OUTDOORS
"Not all those who wander are lost"
Just past Wrightwood on the way to Big Bear, there's a little turn off for Green Valley. If you ever get the chance...you should take it. It's a little piece of paradise up there! There are several campgrounds, Jeep trails, beautiful scenic hikes, a small lake, and any other outdoor adventure you can imagine.
Friday, my wife and I decided to hop in the Jeep and head on up. Without a reservation and we were just going to roll the dice on a first come first serve spot. Well, luckily we found a beautiful little campground simply called...Green Valley Campground, catchy right?? Anyway, I have been to a lot of camp grounds through out the San Bernardino mountains and this is easily my new favorite. The way spots are spread out gives every camper enough space for themselves, but not to much in case you want to bring a group in.
There are a few things you should know going in though...
-Bears frequent the area; use appropriate containers for food and garbage
-Off-road vehicle use is prohibited within the campground
-In accordance with standard industry practices, Mountain Top Recreation will be assessing a ---$5 additional vehicle fee per night on the second vehicle in each single family campsite, and on the third and fourth vehicles in any double family campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the first vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered to be one vehicle and the third and fourth are also considered to be one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles.
By the way...when they say there are bears...they mean it! Taking a nice sunset hike, we stopped for a picture and it wasn't long before a nice healthy growl told us to wrap it up and move on! That's exactly what we did, luckily we got the picture first at least.
So...if you're looking for a week away or an overnighter, check out the Green Valley Campground, you'll love it!
