JEEP LIFE AND THE GREAT OUTDOORS
"Not all those who wander are lost"
Nothing worse than to much gear weighing you down when backpacking. Especially on a long trip. Once again REI adds a few great tips on making sure you get the best gear for your needs...the first time!
With so many choices out there, it's kind of nice to have the pros at REI to add a little insight to your decision. The tips are basic, but we all start somewhere don't we?
Here in Southern California, REI is synonymous with the great outdoors. They offer a pretty awesome selection of gear for any activity. Check out the first in the series of tent buying tips, before you buy.
I finally pulled the trigger, and bought a rooftop tent. I love it! Roomy, warm, great windows for 360 degree views, Its a great way to camp. The only downside I found with the tent...no lights! A tent like that and there's no light? Exactly! Well, flashlights suck, and a bulky lantern is exactly what I'm NOT looking for so...thank you ENO!!!
The ENO Moonshine is a 2 inch by 3 inch hockey puck style light that weighs a mere 4 ounces, comes in 4 colors (black, blue, green, purple), AND...has a hanger! The perfect tent light.
The Moonshine runs off of 3 AAA batteries and puts out plenty of light at 60 lumen in its brightest setting. Theres also a dim white light, strobe light for emergencies (or campsite raves depending who you ask) and a nice red light, which is perfect for a middle of the night wake up call from Mother Nature.
Sure, I like it best as a tent light, but the design also makes perfect for game night at the picnic table or a nice after dinner hike through the campground.
For just under $25 bucks, the Moonshine by ENO will make your camping a whole lot more enjoyable.
You know what I hate? How quickly the plastic on my Jeep fades from black to nasty, especially the hood latches! I also fear the day that they not only look nasty, but they fail me, and the dreaded hood flutter becomes a much bigger problem! It's been that way from the beginning though so, what are you going to do...right?? WRONG!
Rugged Ridge makes the coolest looking, most secure hood catches on the market! I absolutely love the look, love the aluminum construction, and I definitely love the way they lock my hood down securely and I no longer give it a second thought!
Ok, let's get to it!
Removing the old latches is a snap! A small ratchet set, a flathead screwdriver and 5 minutes of your time and they are off!
(There are instructions with your new catches that walk you through the removal of the old latches and the install of the new ones, but it's all pretty self explanatory)
Make sure you remove and set aside the hood stop when you remove the old latches, you'll need those with the new catches.
When the old ones are removed, you simple follow the process in reverse to install the new ones. Easy stuff!
After your new Hood Catch is installed make sure you adjust the tightness. You'll be able to get a nice snug fit that will set your mind at ease later when your hood would of normally be fluttering.
That's it folks, they are installed and you have an inexpensive modification that only took you 15 minutes to do, changed the entire look of your hood, gives you a safe way to eliminate the infamous Jeep hood flutter, and only cost about $135 bucks! There's no going wrong with this one! My only question is, why didn't I do this a long time ago?!
Watches. I love watches, and Bertucci is keeping my love affair strong too! I have been beating this watch up for weeks now, and before I give my take on it, let me tell you what exactly I was looking for in a field watch.
Obviously first and foremost is it has to keep accurate time. From there however...it was all about adventure! I wanted a watch I can hit the trail with. It had to hold up to the desert terrain and that means dirt...and a lot of it! I wanted something that I could lose and comfortable on my wrist, like it wasn't even there. I wanted something with some outdoor style. Something not to small, but it can't be to big either. I really wanted a nylon strap, they seem to be the most durable and comfortable, and I wanted it to be water resistant. Didn't necessarily need to be certified for 200 meters, but at least 100 is a must. Oh...and I have a tendency of destroying things so, it has to be tough. That's not to much to ask in a field watch, right??
Welcome to Bertucci Watches!
My Bertucci has quickly become my go to watch, and not just for my adventures, I reach for it everyday. Here's why...it is easily the most comfortable watch I've owned, and I'm a watch guy! (I currently have about 50 watches. Some high end, and some not, I'm not a watch snob. If I like it, I'll wear it it). So, what makes a watch so comfortable? The perfect combination of DESIGN. Things like weight, size, and strap material all go a long way with making a watch effortless comfortable.
Personally, I love nylon straps, and Bertucci has a huge selection to choose from, WITH matching buckles! (That's a huge plus).
There are a few models at Bertucci that are made from different materials, but my watch of choice is definitely...titanium. It's lightweight, strong, and hypoallergenic.
Now, Bertucci has invested a lot I researching the perfect size for a watch, and they nailed it! Ranging from 42mm - 45mm the case fits perfectly on any wrist. For men it's a good manly size, but not overbearing. For women...well I happen to like the look of an "oversized" watch on a girl's wrist. Although, even at 45mm it doesn't come off as a beast in size, which is a good thing.
Last but certainly not least...my Bertucci has honestly kept time as good as any watch I've owned. I haven't noticed a speed up or slow down and it's almost always on my wrist.
I've met the owner of Bertucci not to far back, and was equally impressed with his views and philosophies of watch making and life. The guy believes in things like hard work, over delivering, and customer service for a business model as well as passing on those character traits to his employees. His standards are high, and that can only benefit the customer.
Seriously guys...for just over $100 bucks, this one is a no brainer. Don't forget...the holiday season is upon us, so check out Bertucci's full catalog here:

Well, the TeraFlex crew are at it again...
There are very few cooler looking things in lighting than Amber lights. I love them! I have them on my Jeep, I have them on my trailer, and I even expanded my circle with the installation of this LED light bar from Sierra LED Lights on one of the CoolGuyStuff.tv team members!
The Dual Ambe/White Light Bar brings LED is pure lighting innovation. The solid housing and mounting brackets are made from aluminum and are the best I've seen.
