JEEP LIFE AND THE GREAT OUTDOORS
I love summer time! I love to take the doors and top off my Jeep and put them away for months without even looking at them! There are a couple days every summer where the sun is so hot it's just miserable though. Maybe 8 or 10 days a summer max. Not worth putting the top on the Jeep for, but it would be nice to just get out of the sun for a bit.
Introducing... The summer top! I classify the summer top as any top that goes on and off your Jeep easily, there's no sides or back, and most importantly... It's cheap!
This is the year of the summer top for me! So I did some homework, reached out to some folks, and got my hands on one to review.
Smittybilt Extended Mesh Top is what I chose. Why? Because I love the sun! I didn't want to cover my interior completely so the mesh top is a great option for people like me. A top that allows the sun to shine through just enough to have that feeling of being completely in the open, and covers just enough to take the edge off the sun. It's cooler, and provides UV protection. Rated 60 SPF it will keep the whitest Jeeper safe and sound.
The top is manufactured out of durable heavy duty UV treated mesh material with a really tough cross stitching. The Straps are great quality and easy to tighten. The plastic latches are a bit weak in my opinion, I could see them breaking fairly easily. Luckily, like everything else with Jeep, it's easy to modify so I'm sure it wouldn't be to tough to figure out something out. You will need a header bar to connect it, and they are not included. Don't forget to through it in with your purchase.
The install was easy. As simple as snapping the mesh top to the header bar, connecting the bar to the front windshield, and strapping the rest of it down. Ten minute install max.
Once on all that's left is to test it out. After driving around with it for a couple days now, I love it! No flopping around, no whistling, did I mention I love it? If you don't have one, and you're on the fense about it, forget it! Go get one. You will not regret it.
There are many brands, and many options to choose from so do your homework first!
A couple weeks ago I came across the coolest little way to add a new look to my Jeep. I've been a Jeep owner since the early nineties, where have I been? I started looking into it. I found the company Full Metal Badges. A couple good guys that just wanted to make something cool and creative that people could customize their rides with. Sounds like the perfect company for me.
I reached out and discovered a few things. First, these guys are really down to earth. I had several conversations with them, getting the details of what they are planning. Second, they were more than happy to ship a couple out to me so I could check them out. Third, this whole project is a kickstarter project so we can all be apart of supporting them if we want. The reason I personally like the crowd funding projects is because usually it helps local, creative, people bring their ideas to life. You can check them out here and see if it's something you want to back. Full Metal Badges Kickstarter
So, the package arrived and I was very impressed with the quality of the badges. Nice and heavy, seems to be made pretty well. The back is the same two side tape that is used in the auto industry for all badges. I loved the harder edge look and I really liked the finish of the badges. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the saying on the badge. That's just a preference though, and there are 5 designs to choose from so there is something for everyone. I will definitely be buying at least 2 of the other designs when they are available.
Check them out here guys, and give them some support.
